New paper on leg development!

August 27, 2018

Collaborative work largely from Roumen Voutev and Susie Newcomb has just come online at PLoS Genetics:

Newcomb S, Voutev R, Jory A, Delker RK, Slattery M, Mann RS (2018) cis-regulatory architecture of a short-range EGFR organizing center in the Drosophila melanogaster leg. PLoS Genet 14(8): e1007568.

In this paper, we use classical and CRISPR-based genetic methods to address the role of a single source of EGFR activity in the distal leg. Our results suggest that EGFR activity in the distal leg is required locally to pattern only the distal leg, and that other sources of EGFR activity are used to pattern more medial regions of the leg.

See also the accompanying article from our Zuckerman Institute communications team. Congratulations to Roumen and Susie!

This publication also marks the end of Susie's tenure as a Ph.D. student in the lab. Susie has moved on to begin a postdoc in Angela Stathopoulos' lab at Caltech, and we wish her the best of luck and lots of continued success for the future!
